Refreshing Advice from Kerensa

1. How long have you been bartending?
I’ve been in the industry for 24 years, nine years at Rooters.

2. Why do you stay with it?
I like interacting with the people. You can be yourself and be goofy. I like to run around. I wouldn’t do well behind a desk. I have too much energy for that.

3. What’s your favorite part of the job?
The people.

4. What’s your least favorite part of the job?
The people. (Laughs) You get the good, the bad and the ugly.

5. What’s your go to drink?
The Rooter’s root beer has been the house drink for 26 years.

6. Go to summer drink?
I invented a drink called the Irish American Redhead with highlights. That’s my go to summer drink here. It’s Jameson – the Irish, American Honey Wild Turkey – the American, Ginger Ale – the redhead and lemon – the highlight.

7. Favorite toast?
My girlfriends and I always say, “Don’t sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff.”

8. Favorite joke?
It’s so bad: A horse walks into the bar and the bartender says why the long face.

9. First date advice?
Leave your cellphone in the car. It amazes me how many people will be at a table as a group and they’re all on their cellphones. Why’d you waste a shower on that?
